The characters are always visually striking with their large and expressive eyes, wide mouths and exaggerated movements.

As for the themes, there are countless that you can watch from anime shows. There are romantic comedies, crimefighting ala CSI, female empowerment, action, suspense thriller and even adaptation of classic literature from famous Western authors.
Let’s not forget the cultural differences. The history, language and worldview of the Japanese are reflected in anime on various levels. Some anime shows incorporate Japanese history or mythology into the theme while others depict the people’s culture, perspective and personalities through the characters. It’s like getting a good peek into the lives of Japanese when you watch these Japanese animated shows and films.
Anime for young children
Unlike other cartoons that were specifically made for children, most anime shows cater for the older viewers. But it doesn’t mean that young kids should never watch anime. In fact, it really depends on the specific show. Some anime shows are all right for very young kids while others are more suitable for mature audiences. Some anime shows that are suitable for all ages include Pokémon and My Neighbor Totoro. Those for teens are Death Note and InuYasha. Then there are those that are only advisable for adults like the Monster and Queens Blade. Parents should also take note that there are certain cultural attitudes toward sexuality and violence that may differ from their own. For example, Japanese culture tends to handle nudity more casually that even those that are meant for younger viewers may include some forms of nudity a bit here and there. That is why, it’s important that parents guide their children while watching anime programs even if the titles seem friendly and innocent. This is just to be sure that you’re there to guide your children when there are concepts that they don’t understand about the show that they are watching.
